Angelina Jolie is the New Tom Cruise

Although the main character for the upcoming film "Edwin A. Salt" was originally intended to be a man, Angelina Jolie is now expected to star as the title role, says Variety. Jolie will be replacing Tom Cruise as a CIA officer who's accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy and must elude capture long enough to establish her innocence. The movie will also receive a title change, because Edwin is obviously a dude's name and that would just make sense. While women are very rarely given meaty roles in Hollywood, it is even more rare that a studio will choose a woman for an action drama-not to mention giving them roles originally intended for men. However with the success of "Lara Croft", "Mr & Mrs Smith" and "Wanted", studios now look at Jolie as having the same balls to the wall attitude and box office appeal of the likes of Tom Cruise Will Smith, and Matt Damon. And while some may not think it's that big a deal, the fact that studios are finally looking at women-even if it's just Jolie for now-as being capable of the same level of ass kicking as their male counterparts.
