Slacker Chic of the Week: Pam Grier

Photobucket
Most of us have people that we strongly admire. Someone we look up to because they have most or many of the qualities we aspire to. For me, Pam Grier is definetely one of those people. I probably don't need to tell you why, as her career and personality pretty much speak for themselves, but I will anyway. When Ms. Grier burst onto the movie scene in the 70's, roles for strong, self-assured, in control women were all but non-existent. Not only was she the first black woman to headline a film, she was one of the first women on screen that didn't need rescuing. She could take care of herself thank you very much, and didn't need the help of any man. That confidence isn't just reserved for the characters she plays in movies and television (in shows such as Law & Order and The L Word), but is very much a part of who she is in real life. She knows who she is, what she wants and where she is going. She's a testament to the fact that women can be sexy, confident, smart and self reliant. That is why I have the picture up top hanging in my home office. She is a constant reminder to me that you can be a fierce, foxy female who demands nothing but the best for herself and doesn't take shit from anybody. And that, my good friends, is why she is slacker chic of the week.
