My Head is Exploding

Photobucket
California media is reporting that with 90% of polls reporting in, 52% of the voters have upheld California's marriage protection amendment, Proposition 8. Some of the more liberal areas have yet to be fully tallied, so there is a chance that the law might not get pushed through. Meanwhile, Florida and Arizona had similar propositions up for a vote. With 99% of precincts counted so far, Florida reports that Amendment 2 has passed with 62%. As for Arizona, Proposition 102 is showing 56-44% in favor with over 80% of precincts counted. If all three states pass their amendments, that will bring the total of states with marriage protection amendments to 30. Again I ask, since when are civil rights up for debate? Oh, that's right. ALWAYS. Have we learned nothing from our predjudice, self righteous past? I for one have and will always stand up for the equal rights of everyone, and I emplore you all to do the same. One day gays may have the same freedoms, and there might be another race/gender/sexual preference/religion up on the chopping block. Perhaps even yours. Imagine someone telling you that you were inferior, and insisting that your liberties were up for debate. You would be outraged! I urge everyone to express the same indignation that you would feel were this happening to you. We must stop the cycle of hate and usher in a new age of true democracy and begin executing liberty and justice for all.
