And Now Subway Has Fired Phelps

Michael Phelps and Jessica Simpson really need to get together and have a chit chat about how 2009 is shaping up to be their worst year ever. According to BuzzNews, Subway is the latest brand to drop Phelps like he's hot. Although nothing has been made official, the brand has removed all former signs of Phelps on their website, and is talking with their lawyers about how to legally wash that Phelps right out of their hair. The Olympian's contract with the company doesn't expire until 2012, but sources say Subway wants out immediately if not sooner. Subway however, is still insisting that they are sticking with the Phelps. "Like most Americans, and like Michael Phelps himself, we were disappointed in his behavior," Subway said in a statement. "Also like most Americans, we accept his apology. Moving forward, he remains in our plans."
You know what I find truely disgraceful about this? How quickly we are to just abandon someone for making a mistake. To hold slebs to higher or lower standards than we hold our own friends to is ridiculous. We can not only forgive Paris Hilton for her DUIs and jail time, and sluttiness, and horrible movies and terrible music and being a total moron and a giant racist tool and an infectious disease on our country, but we praise her for it. Praise her! We give that bitch her own television show and record deal and endorsements and magazine covers, but the minute a 23 year old kid hits a fucking bong we treat him like he's committed freaking treason! I'll tell you exactly how this whole thing is going to play out. After all, we've seen it in different forms a million other times. Everyone will abandon Phelp's ass and hate on him hard. Perhaps he'll start up a foundation or charity in the hopes of winning back America's heart. But that won't do it. In fact, it won't be until the 2012 Olympic prelims that America will embrace him. Everyone will again catch Phelps phever. He'll probably even be more popular and loved than ever before because most Americans will reason "I didn't get caught smoking weed. I am better than him" Because while people love a good comeback, what they love even more is knowing that they are morally above the fallen. Endorsements will come pouring in (perhaps even the same brands that fired him), and he will again be the golden boy who everyone gave a free pass to and forgave. Mark my words. Things will play out like this.
