Disney Under Fire for Jungle Fever

Photobucket
Disney will soon be releasing "The Princess and the Frog" which will feature their first ever African American Princess, but that doesn't mean the movie is without controversy. Many fans are outraged that the movie depicts what they see as a white man saving a black woman. "I think it's sad that he is white because its saying that black love isn't good enough and that black men could never be princes." said one fan. "Disney had the perfect chance to make its first black prince, but instead it decided to go the controversial route.'" Another complained (sic): "I am very disappointed and I wished Disney had made the prince black,(and the ironic thing is the prince in the movie is white but the evil voodoo villain is voiced by a black actor and is black)."
Personally my beef with Disney isn't interracial lovin', it's the fact that females are always the poor, helpless, incompetant lesser that needs saving. Why does the woman always need to be saved by some dude?!? What I want to see the is the movie where the Princess saves the Prince from the fire breathing dragon. Or from a life of servitude. Or poverty. I hate to get all fembot on Disney's asses, but what kind of a message are they sending with all the "damsel in distress, you need rescuing" bullshit? And it's not like they've only made a couple movies about it-it's being going on for over 80 years! I mean seriously, that Prince looks like a total tool. I don't know why she's with him. They might as well have called this movie "The Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer Story."

How about instead of being angry over the fact that the prince is white....let's be HAPPY the prince is white. It's showing that interracial couples are normal and ok. Putting a black prince with a black princess is saying that black people can only date other black people. Or here's another option.....not get mad over a stupid Disney movie. So retarded.

What Liser said. I'm still waiting for gay or lesbian couples to show up in Disney movies, but since it took this long to show an interracial couple I guess it will take a while for THAT to happen =P

Good point! They should include a gay or lesbian couple! Though knowing how progressive Disney is, it will probably take another 80 years. At least.

It's a cartoon....who the french cares?! Was there this much controversy when Mickey danced and sang topless or when Donald Duck gave us full frontal nudity?
