Anna Sui to Design Line for Target

It's official! Famed designer Anna Sui will be designing a Gossip Girl inspired line for retail store Target. The collection, which will feature GG staples such a blazers and florals, came about as a result of constantly being asked about the show by fans of her clothes. "I have always been a fan of designer partnerships with mass retailers. I think it is a great way to bring fashion to everyone," Sui said about the line, which hits stores September 13. "It is an exciting challenge to try and interpret my aesthetic into a mass-produced product with a specific international source as the focus." Sui also told WWD that having the opportunity to design for each of the characters-whose style is so vastly different-was an exciting challenge. "I liked the idea of creating a collection reflective of each character's style, sensibility and unique approach to fashion," Sui told WWD. In fact, she seems to have liked it so much that her Fall 2009 collection, which dropped around February, was aptly named "The Gossip Girls".
Sui will be following in the footsteps of Brit designer (my love) Alexander McQueen as the second haute couture uberdesigner to create a collection for the store. Although hopefully hers is a lot better than McQueen's. I am a huge fan of his but that crap he called a collection was fug and lazy to say the least. I have faith that Sui can bring it though. And I think having a younger generation take such an interrest in fashion as a means of self expression and art is extremely exciting.
