Slacker Chic of the Week: Minnie Driver

Once upon a time, in a magical land named Earth, there lived a beautiful albeit largely ignored actress by the name of Minnie Driver. Despite having an impressive and lengthy career in Hollywood, Minnie has never quite reached the A-list status that many feel she deserves. However if you ask the actress whether she secretly longs for the fame and noteriety that comes with Jolie-esque territory, chances are this down to Earth London native would probably say no. You see, while she may love the glitz and glamour that comes with red carpet territory, when it comes to her personal life Minnie would much rather kick back with her kid or strum on her guitar while creating songs for a new album. In fact, MD keeps her private life so undercover that she refused to even name the father of her son, Henry Story who was born in September of '08. That's not to say however that Minnie is some kind of recluse who hides her children in swaddling clothes like MJ or goes swinging at paps like Sean Penn. Quite the contrary. Whenever I see a picture of her she's always smiling, always congenial, but never a push over. It's this balance of nice girl and tough woman that makes Minnie the fabulous actress she is. And while I did cry many a tear over the untimely and outrageous cancelation of The Riches (second best show ever!!!), I'm pleased to announce that Minnie has a few new projects on the horizon. Her latest film, Motherhood with Uma Thurman, releases on DVD on Tuesday, while the book adaptation of Mordecai Richler's "Barney's Version" is currently in the works.
Whether she's cutting records, filming a movie, or just changing diapers, one thing's for sure: Minnie Driver is a great actress and a super cool chick. Reason enough to give her an Oscar? Maybe. Reason to give her Slacker Chic of the Week? Hell yes. Here's to Minnie!
