Slacker Chic of the Week: Zoe Saldana

When the words "hot young Hollywood" come to mind, what's the first actress you guys think of? For me, it has to be Zoe Saldana. Vanity Fair may have infamously left the amazing actress out of their vanilla "Hollywood Issue", but to hell with them! Zoe is too good, too smart, and too talented to be overlooked-which is exactly why she is our Slacker Chic of the Week.
Although it may seem like the actress came out of nowhere, I assure you Zoe has done her share of grunt work to get where she is today. Born Zoe Yadira ZaldaƱa Nazario, the New Jersey native lived in her father's home country of the Dominican Republic for seven years before moving back to the U.S. at age 17. From there Zoe worked her tail off to become the successful entertainer she is today. From her humble beginnings with New York's Faces theater troupe to her modeling days with Roca Wear to her smash sucess with Avatar, Zoe is always mixing it up, keeping it fresh, and (most importantly) climbing the career ladder like nobody's biz.
When Zoe isn't busy heating up the big screen, she's designing for her fashion label,
Arasmaci. The line, which includes both men and women's designs, is heavily influenced by her Dominican heritage. As for her personal life, Zoe keeps fairly mum, prefering to focus on subjects like the misrepresentation of women in television and films. In the December issue of Details, Zoe spoke out against the double standard saying "I've always gravitated toward the Sigourney Weavers, the fucking Linda Hamiltons, the Angelina Jolies. I just love strong women that are in tune with their bodies—that don't just use their bodies as sex tools. I'm very dominant—feisty. I'm not a man-hater, just a very proud woman." And you know what Zoe? We're hella proud of you too. Which is exactly why you've not only stolen the heart of Hollywood, but the title of Slacker Chic of the Week.
